Whether you are training for an event, coming back from an injury, sitting at a desk all day, or just stiff, sports massage can help you move more easily and recover quicker.
I am based at Beyond the Finish Sports Therapy in Morton, near Alfreton, about 15 to 20 minutes from Chesterfield. Treatment is hands-on, with plain advice you can use afterwards. If you want to know who you are booking, that is on the about page. Appointments are on the booking page.
I regularly see runners, cyclists, climbers, swimmers, gym-goers, tradespeople and office workers from Chesterfield and the villages around it. The same clinic also covers Alfreton, Clay Cross and Tibshelf.
What is sports massage?
Sports massage works on the muscles and soft tissue that get tight from sport, work or everyday life. The name puts people off. You do not need to be an athlete.

It can help if you want to perform better, or if you just want to get through the day more comfortably. More answers are on the FAQs.
What a session can help with
A session may ease muscle tension, improve how freely you move, support recovery after exercise, and take the edge off neck, shoulder and back stiffness. It will not prevent every injury, and I will tell you if something needs a different plan. Every treatment is matched to you, not a set routine.
Who it is for
RunnersFrom a first 5k to a marathon, the usual problems are tight calves, Achilles pain, IT band discomfort, hamstring tightness and soreness between sessions. I run ultras, so this is familiar ground.
CyclistsLong rides often leave you with neck tension, lower back pain, tight hips and shoulder discomfort.
Office workersA lot of Chesterfield clients sit at a desk all day. I often treat neck pain, shoulder tension, upper-back stiffness and postural ache.
TradespeoplePhysical work loads the same muscles over and over. Massage can ease that fatigue and help you recover from it.
Gym-goersIf you lift or go to classes, treatment can help recovery and how well you move, rather than just rubbing where it is sore.
Chesterfield and nearby
The clinic is not in Chesterfield town centre. It is in Morton, and people come over because they want a proper session rather than a rushed one. These areas are a straightforward drive:

Why people make the drive
Treatment is tailored to you, not a script. I run, cycle, swim and climb, so I know what training does to a body, and I see just as many people who do not train. Where it will help, you leave with mobility advice, recovery guidance or a simple rehab exercise, not only an hour on the table.

FAQs
Is sports massage painful? It can be uncomfortable on a very tight spot. Pressure is always changed to what you can tolerate.
How often should I come? Some people come once. Others book monthly, around a race, or when something starts to hurt. We decide that at the appointment.
Is it only for athletes? No. Most clients are people with tension, stiffness or aches from work.
Can it help back pain?It can reduce the muscle tension that comes with a lot of back pain, especially alongside the right rehab. It will not fix every back problem.
How long is an appointment? Most sessions are 45 or 60 minutes. Shorter pre- and post-race options are on the booking page.
